It’s early spring, and soon southern Maine Farmers will be producing juicy tomatoes, succulent onions and my all time favorite fiddle-heads!

There was a time when the purpose of a farmers market might have been to sell produce directly to people in an economically challenged area in an effort to be socially responsible and stem hunger. Today farmers markets are thriving and are a great way for smaller farmers to be able to get their produce and products to local consumers.

Who doesn’t love fresh Maine vegetables, fruits, herbs, flowers, breads, jams, cheeses, juices, local specialty foods and crafts? But hey, I can get those things at the grocery store, so why would I go to a farmers market? … continue reading

“You can’t get there from here” is a famous Maine cliché – and not without some foundation in fact. Road signs in other states have mileage distances to the next town, in Maine these are typically not given. Highway number signs are very sparse, particularly on back roads, making it possible to drive many miles in the wrong direction before discovering that you got “turned-around,” as the locals would call it!
